Spencer's story of how he got into watersports: My dad has slalom skied his entire life and taught my brothers and I how to ski at a very young age. There are photos of me standing on the front of my dad's waterskis at 2 years old! I learned to ski on 2 skis and to kneeboard by myself around the age of 4. I learned to slalom ski around the age of 7. In the late 90s and early 2000s my brothers and I started competing in the INT Watersports League. I qualified for Nationals in waterskiing and kneeboarding my first year. While attending Nationals I met Kent Hartshorn, a former O'Brien pro kneeboarder. Kent was doing insane tricks and inverts on his kneeboard and I was completely blown away! We found out that Kent only lived a couple of hours away from our home in North Carolina. After nationals, I visited Kent for some coaching and was hooked on kneeboarding for good!

I work in the pharmaceutical industry as an Engineer. Everything is very structured, scheduled and strict throughout my day to day. Being on the water gives me the opportunity to "turn off" my brain for a bit, relax, and have some fun and be creative with my riding. I absolutely love seeing jaws dropped to the floor after throwing a massive Raley or Front Somersault on a kneeboard when passing by a group of onlookers. It never gets old!
